Information about the setting of ganglands lives here.
The Bat Castle
Of all the places in the City, the Batcastle is perhaps not the most impressive, but it is the most unique. No-one really knows who built it. In fact, finding a list of who has owned it is nigh impossible. The City Planning Committee seems to be completely unaware that is exists at all, even though so many mundanes walk by it every day. Even though it's inhabitants are constantly coming and going, it seems to the casual observer completely devoid of life and interest.
And it's occupants like it that way.
If you look more closely you will see that the house is a marvel of magical engineering. It is a house that conforms to the needs of it's residents. If a new room is needed, it appears. In fact, if the occupant is to be a long-term resident, it will appear just as they like it, furnished and decorated to their liking. From the outside, it appears the quintessential "haunted house", a sprawling and ramshackle Victorian mansion in need of a new roof and several decades late on repainting. Inside, it is a thriving, bustling household full of children, "imaginary" pets, and Bat activity.
The Snake Pit
The main hangout of the Diamondbacks, this converted pool house is steeped in almost as much in secrecy and intrigue as money and posh decadence. Filled with every overpriced convenience the rich could want and more, it is perhaps one of the more valuable properties in the City, in dollars at least. A pool, at least one hot tub, a fully stocked bar, a dj booth with a grade A soundsystem, this place has everything. Add in another minibar or two, several private rooms on a small upstairs level, a balcony and even a small star-gazing tower and it's a veritable monument to conspicuous consumption. This opulent casbah is where the Diamondback leader Deirdre holds court, and also where she hosts parties for only the most exclusive and privileged of her peers.
The Pool House
Umm... yeah, nevermind.
The Alleys
Any alley in the city could be considered to be the centre of excitement on any given night, it just depends on where you walk. Shadowy deals are made here, illicit exchanges and amorous liaisons, each secreted away in a dark corner, hopefully unseen and unheard. Who knows what you could learn, depending on what you were lucky (or unlucky) enough to stumble upon. Remember, some might react very badly to being overheard.
The Docks
Alongside the wide bay that lines the watery edge of the City, there's a sprawling area of warehouses, small dingy business, and shipping commerce referred to only as "the Docks". Always alive, always busy, the lights never go out and activity almost never stops here. All day, ships are coming and going, bringing goods, technology, and even visitors, that go into the City or out across the country. By night, it's a bustling and dark little town in itself, with night ships, seedy little bars, and a healthy slice or crime, prostitution, and other illicit activity.
While technically the docks are in Bat territory, this area remains a no-man's land. It's too controlled by the fae for organized crime, vampires, or anyone else to really gain a stronghold, but other than that, both gangs keep their distance, letting it's own savage law of survival rule the area. Because of this, it is one of the only (and surely the most) neutral areas in the city.
The Train Tracks
At first glance, the train tracks that run through the centre of the City seem to be just that... a road for goods to be carried from the docks to the distribution lines heading all over the country. But in reality, it is a much more potent division: the dark side from the light. Or rather, the rich, more well to do side of the City from the sprawling, disadvantaged areas, including the barrio and other ethnic neighbourhoods. To the fae, it's as simple as a question of territory: Bats, or Diamondbacks? Besides a few neutral areas, every part of the City falls under one or the other's domain.
Of course there are small exceptions: small areas of wealthy amidst the disenfranchised masses, small pockets of crime and desperation in the Millionaires' backyards, but these are few and far between. No one really speaks of the line the tracks represent, but everyone is quite aware of it. Those who are wisest take great pains to remain aware of what side they're on.
GLAMOUR
Come to Glamour, the most magical place in town! All cheesy adverts aside, this place is seriously happenin'. A club/arcade/diner with food during the day and live dj's at night, it also has an attached arcade and lounge area. Try your shoot 'em skills in the arcade area, have a grilled lunch, unwind in the lounge, or take private business "of any kind" into the private rooms along the back hall. It's a club populated almost exclusively by fae and the enchanted, mostly because those are the only sorts that can find their way in. Occasionally the odd creative mortal will wander in, but with a crowd like this, they won't stay un-enchanted long. Whether that's a good thing... well.
Come to hear the beats from house DJ Toomy, or get a drink at the bar. Most of the employees are fae, with a couple kinain thrown in. Hear live shows from some bands that are hard to find anywhere else in the area: Couch on Fire is one good example. One interesting thing to note is that one of the bartenders both here and at Ravage is a Bat. Both clubs try to steer clear of hiring affiliated fae, but it can't be denied that Annis/Sloan mixes some of the strongest and best drinks in the City. It's also a good place to find information, if you know who to ask and what to offer in return. If you need to get the scoop on what's what and who's who among the city's fae, it's the best place to start, just make sure you don't ask the wrong questions.
RAVAGE
If you don't happen to be magically inclined (even Glamour-deficient, perhaps?) but you're looking for a hot time, look into Ravage, just half way across town. This would also be the choice destination for those with a darker appetite. Dangerous, at times even disturbing, the mood and crowd at Ravage promises to pack quite a punch, but customers are never bored. Home of the best dancers in the City, Ravage hosts exotic dance most weekends and certain special events. It also offers live shows, including rare appearances by the pop singer Natalie Paramour, a native of the City. Come to see live music or Fetish events, but if you're here to see the girls, be sure to keep your hands in your lap. The head bouncer, Morgan, is very protective of the dancers... some say fatally so.
It has a diverse but selective clientele, with fae, a few mortals with a taste for the dark and disturbing, a healthy section of the BDSM/Fetish crowd, and other denizens of the night. You can find a drink to satisfy you here, no matter how ... "particular" your tastes may be. Just make sure you can afford the price.
